Jet2 with a baby: rules for pushchairs, seats and baby milk

Key facts

Short answer: Jet2 lets babies under 2 fly free on your lap, takes babies over 7 days old without clearance, and lets each infant or child take two items free in the hold (such as a pushchair and car seat, up to 32 kg each). If you've bought a 22 kg hold bag, Jet2 adds an extra 10 kg for the baby's things.

Flying Jet2 with a baby or toddler? Here is what Jet2's own FAQs, baggage page and announcements say about infant fares, ages, seating, pushchairs, car seats, bags and baby milk, checked 17 October 2026. Rules change, so confirm with Jet2 before you fly.

Quick answers

Newborns: how young can a baby fly?

Jet2's infant FAQ splits newborns into three groups. Babies over 7 days old who don't have any underlying health conditions don't need clearance and will be allowed on board. Babies aged 2 to 7 days need prior approval from Jet2. Babies aged 2 to 14 days who have been incubated or ventilated, or had any birth complications, also need approval before they fly. Jet2 can't carry babies less than 2 days old.

You can book before your baby is born. Jet2 says to enter the first name as 'Unborn' and the last name as 'Baby', then contact Jet2 once you know the name and it will update it free of charge.

Seats: on your lap, or in a car seat

A baby under 2 sits on the accompanying adult's lap, secured with an extension seatbelt that the cabin crew provide. Jet2 says you can't use your own infant or extension seatbelt.

If you'd rather your baby had their own seat, you can buy one at the appropriate fare, but the baby must then sit in an approved car seat (see below). Jet2 asks you to contact its Customer Service team for advice and charges before booking a seat for an infant.

For children under 12, Jet2's family seating FAQ says it will seat them next to an accompanying adult, and encourages you to pre-book seats when you book or through Manage My Booking. If you don't, it may only be able to arrange seats together at the airport or on board. Children under 14 can't sit in emergency exit seats, and neither can expectant mothers.

Bags and baby equipment

Each child or infant can take up to two items of equipment free in the hold: a collapsible pushchair, pram or buggy, a car seat or booster seat, a baby carrier, or a travel cot. Each item can weigh up to 32 kg. Jet2 said in August 2025 that the old 10 kg limit on these items no longer applies, and that no excess baggage is charged for child or infant equipment checked into the hold.

You can keep a collapsible pushchair until the plane steps or airbridge. Jet2 puts it in the hold and you get it back when you're off the plane or at baggage reclaim, depending on local conditions. Travel cots must be checked in at the Jet2.com check-in desk.

A compact pushchair that fits Jet2's hand luggage size (56 × 45 × 25 cm, including wheels and handles) may go in the overhead locker as your hand luggage if there's space, but you can't use it during the flight. A large backpack carrier can also count as your 10 kg hand luggage if it fits those dimensions.

Babies under 2 don't get their own hold bag or 10 kg hand luggage. Instead, if the accompanying adult has bought a 22 kg hold bag, Jet2 adds an extra 10 kg for the baby's things free of charge, for each adult-and-infant pair on the booking.

Baby milk, food and breastfeeding

Jet2 suggests packing baby supplies in your hand luggage, such as baby milk (powdered or liquid), nappies and wipes, and says baby milk and food may need to be tasted or tested by the adult at airport security.

At UK airports, the government's hand luggage rules let you take enough baby food, baby milk and sterilised water for the journey when travelling with a baby, with no legal limit, though it advises checking with your airport. Breast milk is allowed in containers up to 2,000 ml; frozen breast milk is not allowed in hand luggage.

Jet2's holiday help pages say you're welcome to breastfeed at any time during the flight, including take-off and landing, with your seatbelt fastened when the sign is on, and the crew can help you find a quieter spot in the galley if you'd like more privacy.

Package holiday transfers and car seats

If you're on a Jet2holidays package, Jet2 says infant car seats and booster seats aren't provided for transfers, including private transfers, unless your booking confirmation says otherwise, and car seats may not always be allowed on coach transfers. It recommends bringing your own seat and booking a private transfer if you need to use it, and asks you to tell it in advance if you're bringing more than one baby item so the transfer can fit them.

A greener option

Jet2 flies to sunshine spots that are hard to reach by train, but for Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam the train lets under-4s travel free on your lap and has no liquid limit. See our Eurostar with a baby guide, or compare the big UK airlines in pushchair allowance by airline.
